About
Boy Scout Troop 109 was chartered over 30 years ago by the First United Methodist Church of Bonita Springs.
We are a member of the South West Florida Council and belong to the Panther District.
Our roster hovers around 30 scouts with a max ceiling of 40.
In the past 3 years, we have fledged 6 Eagle Scouts.
Our outdoor program centers around our unique access to the Everglades' 10,000 Islands.
We have two trailers full of canoes, and 32 scouts have built their own kayaks.
We also participate in pre-1830 pioneer-style camping events. Our scouts are learning history through living history.
In 2016, a crew of our scouts paddled and portaged an epic 135 miles in 5 days in the boundary waters of Northern Tier, Canada.
In 2017, Troop 109 won the Spirit Award at week 6 of summer camp at Camp Rainey Mountain.
In 2018, we won the Gateway Competition while enjoying summer camp at Camp La No Che.
In 2019, we had four summer events: the entire troop chartered a bus and attended summer camp in Virginia; a group of six hiked 50 miles of the Appalachian Trail; a third group of six older scouts sailed from St. Thomas, USVI Seabase; and a fourth group attended the World Jamboree. It was a busy summer.
In 2020, two crews of scouts will return to Northern Tier, and we will attend summer camp at Camp Shands in Florida.
We have entered the lottery for a 2021 Philmont Adventure.
